NSW:Kidnapping, adbuctions rise in NSW
The latest New South Wales crime stats show there's been a 30 per cent jump in kidnappings
and abductions.
Recorded drug crime, particularly involving cannabis and amphetamines, has also shot
up in the 24 months to September.
However the number of recorded cocaine dealing and trafficking offences fell by almost
50 per cent.
The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research figures show the arrests for possession
or use of the drug were stable.
NSW Police Commissioner ANDREW SCIPIONE says the rise in cannabis possession and cannabis
related offences is partly due to targeted operations.
The increase in kidnappings and abductions has been blamed partly on numbers rising
from a lull in the 12 months to September 2010.
