VIC:Youth detention for rail thug
A young thug who was part of a "terrifying" attack in which a Good Samaritan was hit
by a rock at a Melbourne train station has been sentenced to youth detention.
19 year old MATTHEW SIMON HAMILTON-HOLT has been ordered to serve two years in a Youth
Justice Centre .. which was the maximum sentence available to the magistrate.
Hobart man TIM REDMOND was a passenger on a packed Frankston-bound train when he was
felled by a piece of ballast that struck him in the head at McKinnon station in June this
year.
He had tried to intervene after a group of youths caused havoc on the train.
Police say the violence started when a drunken HAMILTON-HOLT began yelling obscenities
at a passenger.
Mr REDMOND was bashed when he tried to help another passenger.
He was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery for a brain clot.
